On his long journey Mike Burns encountered Delche General Crook's most wanted Indian; Pakotay who accompanied General Howard and other Arizona Indians to meet President Grant; and Echawawmahoo a medicine man who wanted to destroy all white men. Mike rode with the Fifth Cavalry in pursuit of Sitting Bull in the Big Horn-Yellowstone Campaign. He studied at Carlisle Indian School worked on farms in New York and Ohio turned down an appointment to West Point and attended a college in Kansas. He later worked as a teacher an interpreter and a scout in the U S Army. When he was old he recorded his adventures.
